Thank you. Is there a quick way of doing this? so many folders and files

I keep my file/folder permissions up to date with Admin Tools core. Really easy to do - just one click and done in a couple of seconds. Folders should be “755”, files “644” and configuration.php “444”. Your setup in respect of the latter is vulnerable.

Also, your “session path” needs to be writable. Contact your web-host and get this sorted ASAP.

Secondly, and where you came in, your red Admin panel errors are almost certainly caused by the checks timing out. I get it occasionally when an update check fails. This also disables the update check until you re-enable it.

Go to System > Update Sites > Filter Options and select “disabled”. This might be revealing.
